Enrichment Program

Overview

St. Peter Lutheran School offers an in-school enrichment program for qualified, high-ability learners in grades K-5. The curriculum is determined yearly according to the needs and interests of the students and adjusted as the needs of the students change.

Program Goal

Our goal is to create life-long, independent learners and thinkers, by providing appropriately challenging material to all students according to their needs.

Program

At the beginning of the year, the students in the enrichment program set academic goals for themselves and generate ideas for interest-based units of study in science, geography and technology. Through problem solving activities and projects the students are taught creative and critical thinking skills. In addition, advanced math and reading lessons are provided that are an extension of what the students are learning in the regular classroom.

Identification and Placement

Eligible students in grades 1-5 will have scored at or above the 90th percentile on two consecutive MAP test in reading or in math. They will also have one of the following: an IQ score of 120 or higher, teacher recommendation, or a score at or above the 90th percentile on the SAGES 2 test given by a qualified teacher.
Kindergarten students are selected in January based on teacher recommendation and two initial MAP test scores at or above the 90th percentile in reading or math.

Withdrawal

Students participating in the enrichment program must maintain their regular school work and grades. If the student’s work, grades or behavior show signs of consistent decline, the student’s placement in the program will be reassessed by the enrichment teacher, the classroom teacher and the principal.
